The Musings of An Old, Imperfect Christian

Author Bio:

Alec's working life has been mainly in retail banking, then teaching bankers and finally as Deputy Head of the Business and Management Department in a college in Canterbury for nine years. He has been retired over twenty years (he's in his mid-eighties) which has enabled him to work as a volunteer for the Salvation Army (S.A.) of which he has been a member most of his life. His parents and grand parents were also Salvationists, in fact, his dad's father was an early day officer who was imprisoned for fourteen days for causing a disturbance of the peace. In those days, some of the magistrates were anti-Army because of its stand against alcohol. Alec has been married to Diane for over twenty years and they have between them six children and loads of grand children. They live in Kent, England.

Book Description:

Being in my mid-eighties, I have had plenty of time to think about and to study all kinds of subjects and more so about religious themes. I am also very interested in different kinds of sport and music (particularly brass bands) but in later days (like the grandmother swatting for her finals) I feel it is very important that we all consider how we stand in respect of eternity. Of course, there are many aspects to religion and in point of fact Jesus had a great deal of trouble with ‘religious’ people. So here are my musings, a collection of my short writings, opinions, beliefs plus a glimpse into the lives of some of our saints and characters. I have been influenced by many different people, some I’m afraid I am ashamed to say, I have forgotten but I must mention William Barclay, Nicky Gumbel, J.W.C. Wand, Derek Nimmo (epitaphs), the Encyclopaedia Britannica and countless others. The topics are quite varied. I feel that readers will be able to dip in and out at their fancy but I do hope that something will be of use mainly to help us all to live the Christian life more perfectly in the power of the Holy Spirit. I would not expect everyone to agree with all my opinions but maybe some subjects could stimulate profitable discussion. It might be helpful to have a Bible to hand now and again as some readings are quite long. May God Bless you all in your walk with Jesus.
